Umami Bioworks Joins the APAC Society for Cellular Agriculture

25 September 2024: The APAC Society for Cellular Agriculture warmly welcomes Umami Bioworks as our newest member, post merger with Shiok Meats. Umami Bioworks is a leading cultivated seafood company based in Singapore and has expanded their presence into Japan and India.

Mihir Pershad of Umami Bioworks has been appointed as the new member representative to APAC-SCA. The company is deeply committed to the restoration of the oceans and the planet, providing consumers with a sustainable alternative to the overfishing of endangered species while preserving the authentic flavours and cultural significance of cherished seafood varieties. Using their machine learning-based optimisation platform, ALKEMYST, Umami Bioworks will serve as the discovery and development platform for cultivated seafood — and beyond.

APAC-SCA is pleased to onboard Umami Bioworks in our joint efforts to build the cultivated meat and seafood ecosystem and facilitate coordinated regulatory developments regionally. We're looking forward to collaborating with Mihir and the team at UMAMI Bioworks going forward.

– Peter Yu, Program Director APAC Society for Cellular Agriculture

We are pleased to join APAC-SCA to support collective industry efforts to advance cultivated food regulations across Asia-Pacific, establish safety and quality standards, and advocate cultivated foods as a critical component of a more sustainable food system.

Mihir Pershad, Founder and CEO of Umami Bioworks
